Long time, no see

I realize I've been a bit quiet lately. That's due in part to a number of lifestyle changes, and I'm trying to hit my stride with some new limitations.

We all eat things we shouldn't. Whether it's an extra slice of cake at a wedding, a scoop of ice cream on a lazy summer evening, or one more piece of a truly great pizza, we all indulge when we know we shouldn't. Well, one of those shouldn't elements grew teeth for me.

You see, I'm allergic to wheat.

In my defense, I didn't know about this last month; however, now that I know, it explains rather a lot about the state of my health over the last twenty-plus years. Still, finding out about it meant making a large number of changes in how I eat, how I stock my pantry, and how I cook.

Don't worry, I will be getting back to providing recipes and recommendations, but while I'll provide recipes for wheat-based products, I shan't be consuming any wheat-based foods or beverages. This is truly unfortunate, as I happen to love the microbreweries in our state, and I'm rather fond of our artisan breads. I happen to be more enamored of my health, though, so I'll be avoiding these things in the future.

Speaking of health, let me hop onto my soapbox for just a moment:

If you think you're allergic to something, have your physician recommend a visit with an allergist. Your body will thank you for it, and you'll soon find out, as I have, that your eating choices are more varied than you otherwise might think.
